Fall 2016/17 Runway Trends

The funny thing about the Fashion Industry is that the runway trends are a YEAR ahead of us. WHY? Because retailers need a year to take in trend forecasting, purchase there ready-to-wear line, and create a sales plan.

So, usually when my clients ask me what's new? What's are the latest trends? They want to know what's hot NOW. It's my job to research and get a sense for BOTH fall 2016 and 2107. And, here in Rochester, most people are seeking trends that have longevity past one season.

SO, here is what in for FALL 2016 NOW

I feel like I have said it a THOUSAND times, but THINK 90s, people.

General: 90s Halters. 90s platform sneakers. Chucks with dresses. A touch of faux victorian lace. Simple clean lines reminiscent of Calvin Klein.  Demure florals. Long Overcoats. Birkenstocks. Doc Martin style moto boots.... this is entering into the apex of the trend.

Makeup: Dark lips.

Hair: Rose gold tones are turning into auburns and deeper variations for fall. ALL kinds of REDS. Waves, waves, waves... hair with movement and texture. Lifeless straight it OUT. Center parts are coming back.

AND, here are some up and coming runway trends that you will see developing for NEXT FALL 2017:

General: The 90s continues.. but think less victorian and more renaissance. Chokers are back. Tweed for fall, statement fur, as usual. Shearling bomber jackets, off the shoulder puffy sleeves, and plaid overcoats make the list.

Makeup: More dark lips... and emphasis on "no make-up" minimalist looking makeup, including a love of skin highlighters.

Ladylike: capes, cape-lets, and gloves making lady like appearances. Will this mean sleeve length is going up?? (3/4 length sleeves = my fave!)
